Hot water, harsh cleansing and soap dissolve it. Wind, cold and other external influences break it down, and over the years the skin produces fewer lipids itself. The skin builds new ones all the time, but cannot keep up, the barrier becomes leaky, and moisture seeps out.

Somewhere on there is an emulsifier. It is there because the cream is about 70% water, and water and fat do not come together on their own.
An emulsifier is related to soap. Both are surfactants, and both dissolve fats.
The cream for dry skin contains exactly what dissolves the fats that the skin lacks. That is why it works for an hour: the water evaporates, and the barrier has become leakier than before.

But tallow is NOT just tallow
Three things determine whether the tallow still works when it reaches your skin.
1 - THE COW'S LIFE
The content of the fat is a reflection of what the cattle have eaten. Most tallow comes from animals raised on grain and feed mixtures. Ours comes from Danish, organically certified grass-fed cows - and that is where the fatty acids and vitamins come from.
2 - OILY
Not all beef fat is created equal. Most tallow on the market is made from mixed trimmings from meat production—the fat that was left over. We use only kidney fat, the solid fat surrounding the kidneys. It is protected inside the animal, is the purest fat available, and contains the highest levels of the fatty acids and vitamins that the skin can use.
3 - PREPARATION
This is where the damage is done. Tallow is typically rendered at high heat and then bleached and deodorized to create a commercially pure white, uniform product. This removes the fatty acids and vitamins that the skin needs. We render using only time and low heat, and we neither bleach nor deodorize.

Does it clog pores and make the skin greasy?
No. Tallow consists of the same fats as the skin itself — it is not a foreign synthetic substance that the skin has to figure out what to do with. The creams that have made your skin greasy throughout the day are typically water-based. The water evaporates, and what is left behind stays there because the skin doesn't know what it is. There is no water here — only fats that the skin recognizes.
Can I use it if I have very sensitive skin?
Yes. RAAE consists of ingredients your skin may recognize. Tallow and jojoba oil are both gentle, and the cream contains no preservatives or synthetic additives that could irritate the barrier. If you have very sensitive skin, we always recommend a small patch test first on a less sensitive area—this applies to any new product.
How long does one glass last?
Because the cream is concentrated and waterless, a little goes a long way. For daily use on the face and neck, one jar typically lasts 2 months.
How does it work — specifically?
The skin is constantly losing moisture through evaporation — this is called transepidermal water loss. A weakened barrier loses it more and faster; a strong barrier can retain moisture all day. That is exactly where RAAE Tallow makes a difference. Tallow contains skin-identical fatty acids that the skin uses to repair and rebuild the barrier.
And there is no water in the cream. Water requires emulsifiers to be held together with fat — and emulsifiers dissolve fat. Also what your barrier is made of. That is why a regular cream can provide moisture and weaken the barrier at the same time.
How can the cream stay fresh without preservatives?
Preservatives are necessary when a product contains water — it is the water that bacteria and mould grow in. RAAE Tallow is anhydrous. Without water, there is no microbial environment, and therefore the cream can remain stable for a long time without any preservatives. This, however, places demands on the craftsmanship. An anhydrous formulation requires a precise and gentle manufacturing process, and each batch is tested by reputable laboratories to ensure that it meets the highest standards before it reaches your skin. Store the cream in a cool, dark place, and avoid getting moisture into the jar. Tallow is a natural fat and becomes softer in heat and firmer in the cold. This does not affect the quality.
What does it smell like?
The neutral variant has a mild scent. The strong animal smell that some associate with tallow stems from improper processing and filtration. At RAAE Tallow, we have spent months developing a gentle process that carefully purifies the tallow without destroying its natural properties. The result is a cream without the smell that many fear. A small note: tallow is a natural fat, and "neutral" here means mild and subtle — not completely fragrance-free like synthetic products that are perfumed with scent-masking substances. Why does Lavender & Bergamot list more than four ingredients?
Nothing has been added except lavender and bergamot oils. The rest is mandatory declaration.
When a cream is scented, it must be declared with "parfum" — even when the scent comes exclusively from natural essential oils. Then the fragrance substances that occur naturally in the oils must be listed separately. This is a requirement, not a choice.
The names after "parfum" are therefore not ingredients we have put in. They are substances that occur naturally in the two oils.
The cream contains four things: tallow, jojoba oil, lavender oil, and bergamot oil. No synthetic perfume and no additives.
